Etiquette of the Masjid

  • No electronic devices. The use of electronic devices such as cell phones is prohibited in the masjid for any purpose, including recitation of the Qur'aan. Please use one of the masaahif on the shelves in the masjid.
  • Silence your phone. Turn off your cell phone ringer before entering the masjid.
  • No pictures or video. Taking pictures or video of human beings is a major sin and absolutely prohibited anywhere on the masjid grounds.
  • Dress. If possible, clothe yourself in respectable, Muslim clothing to attend the masjid. At a minimum, wear loose-fitting, covering clothing without pictures of living things or vulgar messages.
  • Worship, not conversation. While inside the masjid, engage in prayer, recitation of the Qur'aan, dhikr, du'aa, durood, dars and other acts of worship. The masjid is not the place for chit-chat, worldly discussions, socializing, etc.
  • Children. Children who are old enough to observe the decorum of the masjid should be instructed to behave appropriately in the masjid. Those who are too young should not be brought to the masjid except in case of necessity.
